Fishing Report

Truckee River Fishing Report:
Flows are great (~200 cfs), weather is unseasonably warm (highs in the 50s and 60s), and fly fishing the Truckee R. has been awesome for mid Jan.  Get out and enjoy some great Winter fishing.
Nymphing tactics are most dependable. Dual nymph rigs consisting of a big stonefly (or caddis) nymph trailed by a smaller mayfly or midge will produce if presented correctly in the right spots. Nymphs to fish: Tungsten Jigstone (#8-12), Bottom Rollers (#10-12), Little Yellow Sloans, pheasant tails (#16-18), midges.
Streamers have also locked up a few slabby fish in the past weeks. Slow stripping (but animated) speeds with Sculpin or cray patterns is where to start.
Fish slower water or broken water. Walking speed water will hold most fish during winter water temps.
Be very careful of slippery ice along the banks, be safe, be courteous, be clean.

Pyramid Lake:
Pyramid Lake has been day to day, but the chance at a monster is there if your fly is wet.  Some huge fish have been caught out at Pyramid this winter.
Stock up on some heavy tippets (1X 2X 3X) and proven flies (Patriot Midges, Pyramid Brassies, Marabou Midges, Bunny Strippers, diving beetles, wooly worms) and go give yourself a chance at a 20 plus lb. cutthroat.
